Artist / Craftsman:
Michael Quentin Haynie. I started out at seven years old collecting driftwood and old boards along the creek shores of the Chesapeake Bay with my grandfather. He would take them back to his tiny shop and make carvings, paintings, and furniture. He taught me an appreciation for old wood and how each piece makes a statement.
I make each of my pieces imagining how nature, the flow of water specifically, would engrave a piece of wood. And how it would waver against knots, shifts, and grain patterns. This interpretation is coupled with old world hewing techniques including axing, slicking, and draw knifing. The end result is an expression of natures possible course of time, love, craftsmanship, and art.
This
distressing can be applied to most pieces of furniture. I welcome your
questions and encourage you to contact me with your ideas. 901 283 0883 m.Quentin@hotmail.com 8821 Oakwood dr Olive Branch Ms 38654
